Here are a few Humour-Nette favorites!
- Modern Humorist
- sophisticated political and cultural humor. Not meant for persons under 18.
Great material and graphic design, an email newsletter you can subscribe to,
and some cool merchandise.
- The Onion - the online
version of a formerly paper-based tongue-in-cheek news site. Sample headline:
"God Re-Floods Middle East." Books and calendars available.
Language isn't for kids, but it doesn't seem gratuitous.
- SatireWire -
similar bogus news stories, e.g., "Scientist Splits Atom, Finds Toy
Prize Inside" and "Axis of Just as Evil." Tamer language
than The Onion. You can also buy a "Diplomas Is For Losers"
T-shirt.
- Despair.com
- Do those motivational posters make you want to gag? How about a slick
photo of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, with the words, "Mediocrity:
It Takes a Lot Less Time, and Most People Won't Notice the Difference
Until It's Too Late"? Calendars, posters, plaques, mugs, "shredder
converters" - it's like Successories but with major
attitude.
- Cartoon Bank
is a searchable archive of more than 20,000 cartoons from New Yorker magazine.
View your favorite cartoons, or buy them framed, or on a mug or T-shirt.
- This Is True
"Weird news" with concise and hilarious commentary by the editor,
Randy Cassingham. Weekly mailings include features like the "Honorary
Unsubscribe" and commentary on hot-button topics like Zero
Tolerance. There are free and "premium" subscriptions.
- World Wide Words -
Humour-Net readers who are also interested in the English language will enjoy
this site. Find out why we "boot" our computers and what "potboiler"
and "trip the light fantastic" really mean, and become
bilingual (British and American English). Free weekly email newsletter.
- San Fernando Valley Folklore Society
- An excellent site about urban legends.
Check out those suspicious emails by searching this site for the story's keywords.
(Put another way: please do us all a favor and research this stuff before you
pass it along to others!) Find comprehensive essays on each legend's origins and
what the facts are - if there are any facts.
